[Oh it's more than just sexual frustration for Dawn, she just isn't letting herself think too much about why Jason's kiss is so hard to get out of her mind, even when she gets to the com room where Dick is it's still lingering in the back of her head. Donna and Hank are quick to arrive which helps a little but what mostly finally pulls her from her own thoughts is what's happening on screen downtown, which is shaky news footage of a group of men dressed in armored mechs that seem to be made out of car parts.]
What the fuck are they supposed to be? Bad Power Ranger villains?
[Donna asks and Dick shakes his head.]
Doesn't matter what they are, they're hurting people. Let's go.
[Dawn nods and they all head off to suit up but she lingers for a moment, looking at the screen, noting the location with a strange sense of worry. But why? It's not like any of them are trying to get out of San Francisco tonight, right?]

wasnt sure where you wanted to go with this and i suck at fighting things so... *flails hands*
[ Jason doesn't know what he's going to do when he gets back to Gotham. he knows Bruce doesn't really want him back there yet, but he can't stay in the Tower. at least Gotham's closer to whatever semblance of a home he has.
he's long gone from the Tower, but apparently still close enough where he picks up on some kind of commotion downtown. he should leave it and just be out of here, he doesn't want to run into the Titans anyway, but traffic is at a standstill, and when he finally drives up to what's going on, he knows he needs to stay and help. luckily he has his Robin suit with him. of course he does.
he's already working on a plan by the time he stows his things away. if the Titans get here, they get here. he's planning to take these guys down on his own. ]
You don't suck at fight threads, this is great and it won't last long I promise <3
[Usually when the Titans arrive on the scene they are the only costumed crusaders there but it would seem that this time someone else has beat them to it and Dawn can see Dick's jaw tighten in anger when they see who it is. Robin.]
How the hell did that little punk beat us here?!
[Hank asks, bewildered and Dawn finds that she can't respond. Her heart is too busy beating wildly as she watches Jason flip about, avoiding hits and mocking the strange car mech goons.]
It doesn't matter, we can use the help. Let's get this done.
[Dick says, his tone cold and business like, and the Titans jump into action. They break apart and begin to fight back, swapping opponents and working together like a well oiled machine that is until Dawn notices that one of the goons who they took for being down for the count is leveling a cobbled together weapon at Jason who is busy beating the hell out of another opponent. She feels her blood freeze and instead of helping Hank with the guy they are fighting she breaks out into a run, saying a quick silent prayer that she's fast enough and then throws herself in the line of fire.]
No!!
[It hurts, a lot, and even through the protective material of her wings she can feel something in her back cry out and give. She falls to the ground, grimacing but still trying to get back up to keep fighting. She can hear Hank yelling and she turns, her eyes going wide when she sees one of the mech goons heading right towards her to finish her off.]
[ the truth is, this is exactly what Jason needs right now. suiting up as Robin always makes him feel like he's on top of the world, and once these asshole mech guys focus in on him instead of the civilians, he can feel that incredible, electric feeling he always gets when he's in a good fight.
he forgets all about his heartache, his self-hatred, and how shitty he feels about not knowing where to go, and he fights these guys with all he's got.
he's doing well too, even when he notices the Titans show up out of the corner of his eye. so yeah, these guys are a lot and maybe he could use their help, but he's doing just fine on his own, one guy already down for the count, his fancy mech gear all busted up. feels kinda good though, when he knows the Titans are probably annoyed that he got here first... but in the end, he's still gonna fight with his team. it's something he's been wanting to do since he got here.
he tries not to think about Dawn. these are just the Titans he's with now.
he tries not to, but he hears Dawn cry out, his head swivels around and he catches the tail end of her getting shot by a gun that was aimed at him. at the same time as Hank starts yelling, Jason spots the guy heading for her as well, and he leaves what he's doing, catapulting himself right into the guy's exposed face, wrapping his grappling gun around his neck and tugging hard to throw him off balance and steer him away from Dawn. ]
[Time seems to slow down as she watches the hulking figure rush towards her and as much as she wants to dart out of the way her body doesn't respond, she's frozen from both pain and surprise, luckily Jason is fast enough to respond and jumps to her rescue. She watches as he uses his grappling gun to steer the attacker away from her and into a brick wall, flipping off at just the right moment to avoid being hurt.
She forces herself to start moving, stumbling towards Jason but stops half way because she feels a horrible grinding sensation in her back and starts to cough. She doubles over, wheezing harshly and the world swims in and out of focus for a moment. She can dimly hear the fight around her coming to an end and Dick's voice asking if everyone is okay, and yet she can't seem to get a breath in order to respond.]
[ Jason knows she's not okay. Hank should know it too, watching her get shot the way she did.
Jason wastes no time taking the bastard down, making sure he hurts in a special kinda way for hurting Dawn, and then he makes a run for it, back over to her, catching her before she might hit the ground. ]
Dawn! I've got you. Just lean on me, okay? I've got you.
[ he finds the spot where her suit was punctured, blood seeping from the wound.]
[She can feel his arms move around her and she sags against him gratefully, nodding weakly when he says that he's got her. She can hear the other Titans rushing over, their voices worried but dim and she doesn't bother trying to respond to their questions. She couldn't even if she wanted to, it hurts and she suddenly feels very tired.
The world fades to black for a while and she drifts through it, at some point she feels a horrible sharp pain and hands on her and she moans weakly but then she drifts deeper. Eventually the world starts to comes back and she wakes up in the Tower's medical room, she blinks a few times and tries to sit up, pain instantly shooting through her back.]
....ow.
[She says weakly and falls back against the pillows.]
[ of course it's Hank who takes over from there, gathering Dawn into his arms and away from Jason so they can rush back to the tower. Jason looks down at his gloves covered in Dawn's blood, and he knows he can't leave now. not until he knows that she's okay.
he follows after them, standing around worriedly outside the med bay in the Tower as they work on Dawn. he thinks about everything that went down, how he left, how she ran into the line of fire and now she's hurt instead of him. it's guilt, upon guilt on top of worry, and when Hank finally leaves the room to get some air, he berates Jason for showing up there like he did. for once, Jason doesn't have it in him to argue. he knows. it's all his fucking fault and he knows.
when Dawn wakes up it's Hank and Dick who are there with her, of course. Jason's down in his room, music blasting as he stares down at his phone, waiting for someone to let him know about Dawn. ]
[She isn't surprised that Hank and Dick are the ones who are there when she wakes up, it's only natural, and yet part of her is sad that Jason is no where to be found. Dick stays long enough to give her a full report on how bad the damage to her back is, which is thankfully not as bad as it could have been but she won't be able to do any Titans work for at least eight weeks, and then gives her a gentle hug before leaving her alone with Hank so that he can tell everyone else that she's awake and okay.
For the next hour things are okay, Hank stays by her side but soon he starts picking at what happened and eventually makes the mistake of asking her why she did something so stupid and impulsive. Pretty soon they're arguing and after a small coughing fit she tells him to leave. She knows part of his anger is just left over fear and trauma from when she was in a coma but she also can't help feeling insulted and angry at his judgement of her and she lays back with a sigh.
A few moments later her phone begins to ping as Rachel and Gar send her texts messages and silly emojis to show how excited they are that she's okay, she chuckles and sends a few back. Dick must have told them that they can visit her tomorrow which is probably best but there's someone she wants to check in on and so she sends a text to Jason:]
[ as soon as Dick comes to tell Jason that Dawn has woken up, he's ready to go see her, but Dick doesn't want him to. he tells Jason that Hank is with her and she doesn't need any stress right now, and Jason's too on edge not to start a fight with him.
in the end, Dick wins out though, because Dawn doesn't need this shit, and Dick is right. she doesn't. at least Dick doesn't outright say it's his fault, but he sees it on his face.
he gets more shit about why he was there with those mech guys in the first place, without backup or anything, but he doesnt' want to tell Dick that he was going to leave. or that he's leaving. they'd probably help pack the rest of his things up and get him the hell out of here.
by the time Dawn sends the text, Dick is gone again, and Jason's back to itching to want to see her.]
[She sends, a ghost of a smile rising to her lips. She slowly eases herself up into a sitting position, groaning a little at the ache in her back and waits for him to arrive.]
[either way, he's already off his bed and heading out of his room, doing his best sneaking in case Dick is around and wants to try and stop him. not happening.]
[ he doesn't reply to her once he gets the word that she's alone. he sneaks quietly to the med bay, slipping inside. he looks worn out and frazzled, but freshly showered. he couldn't stand the thought of her blood being on him, even if it was on his clothes. ]
Hey.
[he glances around to make sure no one else is actually in here, then goes over to her bed, looking her up and down.]
[She hears him before she sees him and when he slips in cautiously she can feel something in her chest loosen, a sense of relief that washes over her.]
Hi.
[She notes the way he looks her up and down and she does the same to him, physically he looks fine, clean and showered but his eyes are tired and filled with a sort of frantic concern that touches her heart because she's the source of that concern.]
[She asks, her brows furrowing a little because she has no recollection of feeling blood. It was just that awful grinding pain.]
Dick says I'll be able to walk around in probably about a week, there's some bad bruising and stitches but thankfully it's not on my spine, mostly my upper back area. It will be about eight weeks before he'll even think about letting me out on missions again though so....
[She trails off, her eyes moving up to lock onto his.]
You were pretty out of it by the time I got to you.
[he says quietly. he hears a noise outside the med bay and he tenses up, his head swiveling around to look and make sure no one's coming in here before it passes and he looks at her again.]
Eight weeks? Holy shit. That's a lot of time.
[he was going to leave. to go back to Gotham. he probably still should. Hank will be around her, taking care of her and all that, and Jason knows that's probably good. he shouldn't be around her after what happened in his bedroom, that's for fucking sure.]
I guess I was, I heard you though. And felt you hold onto me.
[She says softly and then sighs, her eyes dropping away from his to look at her hands.]
I don't know.....I haven't really thought about it yet. But...yeah maybe. I could go stay somewhere on my own for a bit while I heal. Figure some things out.
[It might solve a lot of things if she just left, things with Hank aren't getting better and some time apart might help her figure out what it is she wants to do about that. Also, it means that she won't further mess things up with Jason and yet....]
Yeah, I... I was there for a second but then Dick and Hank got you back over here.
[he would have too, though, if they hadn't taken her away from him. but that part doesn't matter. all that matters is that she got here and Dick patched her up. he's incredible like that.]
On your own...? What about...
[he starts to ask, but then he stops himself. Hank. he was by her side in an instant. still with her all this time when they got back. Dick told him he was. Jason feels so fucking guilty.]
I appreciate that you were there for me and that you stopped that guy from finishing me off.
[She says and then nods.]
Yeah, on my own. I.... can't be around Hank right now, not when all we do is fight and I'm questioning us being together.
[It sounds awful, cold and harsh especially since she knows he didn't leave her side while she was unconscious but at least with pain comes clarity and she can already see how the next few weeks would go between them and already that thought makes her tired.]
You were already on the scene when we got there, which means you left before we did. Where were you going when you got the signal?
You got hit cause of me. You ran into the line of fire cause he was aiming at me. This is my fucking fault. Why'd you jump in front of the shot?
[he furrows his eyebrows, glancing at her again. so she and Hank are still fighting. he doesn't know how he feels about that, but he has a feeling this whole thing with him and Dawn only made it worse. he wonders if Dawn is going to tell Hank what happened between them. if she even feels guilty about it after all of this.
I didn't want you to get hurt. And I hate to tell you this Jason but there's no way that my actions are your fault, I ran into the line of fire because I decided to.
[She tells him, her tone slightly irritated.
When he tells her that he was heading back to Gotham it hurts her but it makes sense, why would he want to stay here when she's made a mess of everything around them?]
I could've taken the shot. If I had been paying more attention it wouldn't have had to happen at all. Hell, if I hadn't been there in the first place, you wouldn't have gotten hurt.
[he can be irritated too. but really it's all at himself. Hank and Dick were right. he shouldn't have been there at all.]
Yeah. I thought it would be better if I left. I didn't wanna wreck things for you here... I didn't think I could face Dick or Hank... and then I went and fucked shit up anyway.
Why are you always so insistent on everything being your fault?!
[She demands, moving to sit up a little more but then winces and grabs at her back.]
Ow. Fuck! Jesus Christ Jason, you didn't do anything wrong! It's good that you were there before us, you were able to help all those people. And you aren't wrecking anything for me here, I'm the one wrecking things so I should be the one to leave!
