Oh my god, Jason! Oh, that's so tight!

[Dick nearly walks into the nearest wall when he hears that exclamation coming from Dawn's room and he has to backtrack, pausing at her door, his eyebrows furrowed in concern and confusion. He lifts a hand and then knocks on the door.]

Dawn? Everything okay?

[Dawn looks over her shoulder and grins at Jason, who is helping her get into her undercover fetish dress.]

Yes! Just trying to get into this outfit, Jason's lending me a hand.

[In more ways than one....]

Be careful ok?

[Jason says softly before she gets out of the car, then watches her head inside before he looks over at Dick and sees him staring at her too. well that, and shaking his head.

he starts to climb to the front of the car while Dick goes to find a spot.]

You didn't have to be such an asshole to her, you know.

[dawn_is_breaking]

[Dick's jaw clenches a little as Jason clambers his way into the front seat and he grips the steering wheel a bit tighter as he pulls the car around the block and down a series of dark alleys.]

I wasn't being an asshole. I'm just trying to make sure she doesn't give Gar a heart attack. [There's a pause and then he adds.] Or you any lecherous ideas.

[he settles into the passengers seat with a plop, then gives Dick a look.]

No but you really were, and she called you out on it.

Lecherous ideas? Ok, old man. Still her choice.

[dawn_is_breaking]

[Dick just grumbles in response because he can't really argue too much with Jason about that point, so instead he focuses on finding a parking spot. Does he park a bit more aggressive than he should by hitting the breaks a bit hard? Maybe.]

Come on, we have work to do. [He says and after a quick scan they climb out of the car and scale up the side of the building, and as annoyed as he is at Jason he does have to give him credit at how fast and agile he is at getting up there. Once they are perched up top he turns on the com link and speaks into it to make sure Dawn can hear them.]

We're in position. Are you in?

[There's a brief pause and then Dawn's low voice is heard.]

Yes.

[theotherobin]

[ Jason leaves it alone too, cause he's just happy he's getting a chance to leave the tower and work with them. in Robin mode he's quick and attentive, quiet as he listens for Dawn, relieved when she speaks up. ]

[dawn_is_breaking]

How's it looking in there?

[Dick asks and when Dawn answers her voice is still low, but teasing.]

Well the bondage cross looks busy at the moment but the paddling station is open....oh and a very nice man in a gimp outfit just complimented me on my dress. He said he would be happy to let me stomp on his testicles any day.

[Dick looks like he's taken a bite of something sour and he frowns.]

Dawn.

No sign of the lead yet, but I'm only half way through the club.

[ Jason can't help but snicker into the com link, because Dawn really is great, but even better is the look on Dick's face. absolutely priceless. ]

He might not even be there yet, we're a little earlier than he usually shows up, according to your intel. Might as well have some fun, babe.

[dawn_is_breaking]

[Inside the club Dawn grins to herself, getting a secret little thrill out of hearing Jason call her babe in front of Dick. She chuckles and heads further into the club, sliding through the throngs of people easily and confidently.]

None of us are here for fun, we're here for work. You two would do well to remember that. [Dick says curtly into the com link and Dawn sighs mentally, giving up on any more teasing she might do to him and gets back down to business.]

I'm going to check out the back end and then I'll circle round, I'll let you know if I spot anything.

[She says and then the com link goes quiet, as does Dick. There's a long stretch of silence as both Dick and Jason just wait until finally he says something.]

You shouldn't encourage her like that. Not even as a joke. It's a distraction and she needs to get her head back in the game.

[ Jason rolls his eyes when Dick continues on, as if this is the first time they've ever done this before. such an asshole.

when he speaks up again, Jason makes a face, never bothering to hide his annoyance.]

Shouldn't encourage her like that? What's with you, dude? She's a fucking adult, not some little girl who doesn't know what she's doing. Why are you being such a gross control freak?

Because I don't want her getting hurt again, okay?!

[Dick snaps back, his brows furrowed.]

She's been out of practice for weeks while she heals and the first time I let her back into the field she's acting way too cocky.

First of all, bro. You're not letting her back into the field. Second, you're such a fucking asshole. Too cocky? Why, cause she can do what you didn't wanna do?

[Jason retorts, giving Dick such a look.]

She asked you to be in there with her and you were too uncomfortable. That's on you, man.

[dawn_is_breaking]

[Dick looks away, obviously trying hard to ignore things and get back to work. Which is hard when your job is to literally wait.]

How did you know I was uncomfortable with it?

[He asks after a moment, his eyes moving back to look at Jason suspiciously.

[ Jason knows he should probably just ignore this and say whatever. it's not like he didn't do the same thing, but... Dick should have done this regardless. he should be in there with Dawn. ]

She told me.

[dawn_is_breaking]

She told you.

[Dick repeats and his jaw tightens a little.]

And why would she tell you about a private conversation we had? Come to think of it, since when are you two so chummy?

[Chummy enough for her to have asked for Jason's help getting into that dress.]

[ Jason scoffs at Dick's clear jealousy, and it takes everything inside of him not to tell Dick the real reason. everything inside of him, because that wouldn't be fair, and he knows it would fuck things up so bad.

but still. ]

Is it so hard for you to believe that someone actually respects me? That she'd rather talk to me over you, because you fucking judge her all the goddamn time? I know, that's so hard for you on both accounts.

[dawn_is_breaking]

[Dick makes an angry huffing sound and continues to glare at Jason.]

I don't judge her.

[Okay maybe he does a little, but he does it to everyone. He can't help it, it's the training and Bruce's influence.]

[theotherobin]

[ oh good, he loves this whole glaring and holier than though part of Dick's shit. ]

Literally what the fuck have you been doing all night, Dick?

[so full of himself that that's what he's focusing on rather than how chummy the two of them are. it's surprising, but also not.]

You think you're in control of everyone, man. You're really not.

[dawn_is_breaking]

[Dick is usually good at hiding his emotions but there's just something about Jason that makes his anger seep out more and he makes that huffing noise again.]

I'm not trying to control anyone, and least of all Dawn. I know perfectly well that no one can do that.

But what I can do is remind her to focus on what's important, which is the job. Ever since Hank left she's been acting....different.

Doesn't seem like you do.

[ Jason shifts his angle, sharpening his lenses towards the entrance of the club, focusing on that for a moment as Dick goes on about how different Dawn has been. ]

Maybe that's not all that's important to her. Maybe she's happier now.

[dawn_is_breaking]

[There's a stretch of silence between the two and after a moment Dick sighs and pushes back his hair.]

If she's happy then that's good I just....fuck. I'm sorry Jason, this whole thing, me and Dawn. It's always complicated because of what we used to be.

[There's another stretch and finally, even though it almost seems like it hurts him to ask he does.]

Does she ever talk about us?

[theotherobin]

[ Jason's quiet then too.... unusually so, because this is.... it's fucked. it's totally fucked, and he really is at a loss for words for a good long while, trying to keep his gaze on the entrance of the club.

the fuck is he even supposed to say to this?

it makes him feel so... small. so fucked up.

Dick and Dawn used to be such a thing. before Hank and Dawn used to be such a thing. it's hard for him to even imagine himself between all of that. maybe like some kind of placeholder, but really, how can he compare to Dick, if Dick still has feelings for Dawn? ]

[he says aggressively, annoyed, combatively. but then he lets out a sigh of his own.]

Yeah. She does.

[dawn_is_breaking]

[Dick's face doesn't really change but he nods and then after another moment he speaks again.]

Did she tell you why we broke up?

[theotherobin]

[ Dick doesn't react the way Jason thinks he will, and this suddenly feels like a trap.

he's quiet for another moment, but then he figures why not. they're doing this. he doesn't understand why Dick would wanna talk to him about this, especially cause he thinks they're being chummy, but... whatever. ]

Why don't you tell me why you think you broke up?

[dawn_is_breaking]

[If asked, Dick wouldn't be able to say why he's suddenly telling Jason all this either, and yet he can't stop himself. Maybe it's not just anger that Jason prompts in him, maybe it's sometimes honesty.]

Because I lied to her and shut her out.

[ Jason's pretty damn sure he doesn't inspire honestly in Dick, but he's been wrong plenty of times when it comes to what he can and can't do. not in terms of skills, but everything else.

still, Dick has never talked to him about personal stuff before. of course the first time he really does, it has to be about Dawn. ]
