[ He huffs quietly in amusement, and takes a sip of tea while he considers how honest he should be. Something tells him she wouldn't be particularly judgmental, but at the same time that's not exactly what he's worried about. The reason he even hesitates at all is also one of the reasons he's pretty sure he doesn't make a good boyfriend, though. So maybe he should practice. On someone who's ... less invested in him?

Something something trust issues. ]

Sherlock's too high on my list of priorities. And I guess I don't ... give enough of myself.

[ And she can take that any way she wants. ]

[She makes a small thoughtful noise and nods, she thought it might be something like that. The bond that he and Sherlock have is definitely something that not everyone would want to work around, especially if that person was the jealous type.
Her last partner, Hank, had been like that. Jealous and quick to assume that he was always playing second to someone else in her mind despite her insistence that she was with him and that she shouldn't have to prove anything to him in order for that to be true and at times it was exhausting to deal with.]

It's a hard thing to do, to give someone your whole self.

[She says quietly and then offers him a small smile.]

It's better to know things like that about yourself and if you're happy with how things are then that's good, I'm the last person to judge or harp on you to go out there and get married or partnered up.

[ His eyebrows shoot up, and he laughs a little. ]

Thanks. Except I'd like to, someday. Guess I just have to wait for someone who can stand Sherlock to come around.

[ He supposes he's not in a hurry. It's all fine. Sherlock will always be a part of the equation. ]

What makes you the last person?

Someday but not today, that sounds quite acceptable. Would you want to do the whole thing, as in get married and have kids?

[She takes a sip of her tea and offers him a soft smile.]

I'm the last person to judge you about that seeing how I haven't dated anyone in about five months and I don't particularly see myself doing so for a good long time.

[hadbadays]

[ A good long time, huh? Sounds like whatever her last relationship was might have ended badly. Or maybe she's just decided to try out the single life. He won't ask any further. ]

Yeah, I think I'd like kids.

[ He pauses for a moment, and smiles to himself. ]

They'd definitely have a very interesting life.

[dawn_is_breaking]

I think you'd be great with kids, they would certainly have an interesting life but just think of how smart and willful they would grow up to be.

[hadbadays]

Oh, god.

[ He snorts a laugh, and scrubs a hand over his face. ]

With Sherlock around? Terrifying.

[dawn_is_breaking]

[She chuckles and raises an eyebrow at him.]

You don't think Sherlock would be a good babysitter? Who knows, a child might be the only one who could baffle him. They do have bizarre logic.

Guess that depends on what you want from a babysitter. He gets along great with kids. It's just that getting along with kids also includes encouraging their whims.

[ On the other hand, John doesn't doubt that he'd keep them safe either, so ... There's that. ]

Ah but isn't encouraging their whims a good thing? If my mother hadn't encouraged me to spin and dance in the living room when I was little I might not have ever become a professional dancer.

[hadbadays]

Sure, that's ... fine. But I didn't just spin and dance in the living room. I climbed onto rooftops and then jumped off them because they didn't look that high. They were that high.

Well, I did once. It was very painful.

[Her eyebrows go up and her smile grows, she can imagine John as a little boy pretty easily, but she wouldn't have suspected that he was such a daredevil.]

A risk taker and an adventurer from the start hrm?

[hadbadays]

Yeah, I guess I was.

[ Surprisingly, he didn't end up in the hospital much. He thinks most people who do don't usually study to be doctors. At least, from his experience, most of them really end up hating hospitals.

He finishes the last of his croissant. ]

Anyway, I don't actually think Sherlock would let my kids jump off a roof, so at least there's that.

And if he did I'm sure he would think of some contraption or plan to catch them. How many kids do you think you'd want?

[ He raises his eyebrows in emphatic agreement. And it would probably be around John too, just to give him a heart attack. ]

Two, at most, I think. Or I might be nice enough to spare the first one a sibling.

[ Not that he doesn't love Harry, and that Sherlock and Mycroft love each other, but it seems siblings are rarely ever easy. ]

Spare them a sibling? Oh but siblings are great.

[She says with a smile.]

I grew up having a sister and it was great, we always had each other to talk to and play with.

[hadbadays]

[ His head jerks briefly to the side. Sure, he supposes there's that. He and Harry used to get along. Because they grew up, and apart. ]

Still close to her, then?

[dawn_is_breaking]

[She pauses, her eyes flickering away for a moment.]

Not so much anymore, after our mother died we kind of went separate ways. But when we were young it was important that we had each other.

[hadbadays]

Oh.

[ His expression softens somewhat. The circumstances of his estrangement from Harry might be different, but he can sympathise. ]

Sorry to hear that.

[dawn_is_breaking]

Thank you, it happened about six years ago. She was killed in a car accident....

[There's a brief flicker of pain and anger in her eyes and she sighs.]

The worst part was that it really was an honest accident, there was no one to blame so it all just seemed that much more unfair.

[hadbadays]

Yeah. Yeah, I get that. Nowhere for the anger to go.

[ It was a little similar for him when he was sent home. He'd been shot, and he couldn't do anything about it. No one around to blame for that. ]

[dawn_is_breaking]

Yes, that's it exactly.

[Although in time she found somewhere to fuel her anger, becoming the vigilante hero known as Dove had helped quite a bit and had even helped her find a new family eventually. A family that of course had been torn apart recently which is part of the reason behind her move to London.]

You have a sibling don't you?

[hadbadays]

Yeah. A sister. We're not in touch either.

[ Not for lack of trying from Harry, but he's just been burned too many times. She's had her chances. ]

Ah, I see.

[She tilts her head to one side.]

You're the older sibling aren't you?
